Ford Dana 60 BallJoint Project Arms

Double shear is shown and is possible, we currently have 4600 Ultra 4 competitors racing with this application.

What we have here: Designed for a Ford Ball joint Dana 60, 92-04 axle including Dana 50 Super Duty, to a function-able dual ended ram hydraulic steering system not based off the factory tie rod arms. The arms we build for this system are based on an 8" stroke ram. Arms will need drilled for your ends and finished as desired.

Kit Includes:

  • One Pair Left and Right Machined Project Arms
  • (2) 9/16ths stud kits.

What you need to complete this kit:  Your passenger and driver knuckle machined by us.  Knuckle Machining

It is possible to line bore the knuckles and capture the lower tie rod eyes. The problem is, this is very difficult. Here is why, the factory tie rod arms are too short, this was so they fit inside a 16" wheel.  They are also further out from knuckle center than we can move the upper arm out and clear a wheel, even 20" wheels. You have to bore at an outward angle towards the wheel hub, and inward towards the axle shaft at a compounded 15* angle.

Our customer Chris (picture shown installed)  who uses his ZJ for obstacle course racing was capable of creating a double shear captured bolt system in his driveway with a 20v Dewalt hand drill and Harbor Freight drill set. Chris is not an engineer or machinist. He has basic mechanical skills. If you possess basic mechanical skills, you too should be able to replicate this conversion.

Steering Arm Info:

Our steering arms are CNC machined out of ASTM A572 Grade 50 steel. We previously have used 1018 steel, but switched to a more rigid material (A572). Grade 50 is a very strong low allow steel that fulfills our exceptionally high strength requirements, and is particularly strong for applications in which it is riveted or bolted. ASTM A572 Grade 50 is considered a "workhorse" grade and is widely used in many applications. Steel mills produce channel and heavy beams with Grade 50. It is commonly used in structural applications, heavy construction equipment, building structures, heavy duty anchoring systems, boom sections, structural steel shapes, and applications that require high strength per weight ratio.
