Dana 60 High Steer Double Shear Arms for Full Hydro or Crossover Steering

Double shear captures the tie rod or steering ram from top and bottom, using factory tie rod location ears and our arms.

Will Fit:
-Stock 4 stud GM knuckle pattern
-Reid Racing Knuckles 5 stud pattern (Highly Recommended)
-Some Dodge Knuckles (those that are similiar to GM-tie rod locations seem to vary, bolt length may be too long)
-Will Not Fit factory Ford Knuckles, the 3/4 Bolt won't line up. (Upgrade to a Reid knuckle-Reid uses a Chevy knuckle with Ford spindle pattern)

 

Additional Information:
Spring-less king pin pre load design. Giant 7/8" chrome moly pre load adjuster bolt and T1 king pin bushing wear plate included. Load bolt is manufactured by Sky's for this application, not a 3/4" set screw from from the local hardware store!

Comfortably the arm will clear a 4.500 back space 17" wheel. We have run these on tighter backspace with minor sanding of the arm, the biggest issue being deflection of the wheel in extreme use ( King of the Hammers) and actually hitting/flexing the wheel into the arm. This has cause catastrophic failures of the wheel. 

Arms use tapered nuts to add resistance to side shear.

Designed around an 8 inch stroke ram. Arms do require sizing lower tie rod hole to desired size of rod end. Arms come with 3/4 pilot based on Dana Spicer location.

To determine you have knuckles that will work, you can use a framing square, "L" square. Lay square across spindle face of the knuckle and over center of tie rod bore. This number should be 2.250" or dangerously close.

Uses factory length studs or our upgraded studs.

Want to run double shear and not full hydraulic steering?  We now offer a variation in our passenger side steering arm with a 5/8ths drag-link pilot hole to run either a tapered TRE or a standard bolt.  THIS MAY REQUIRE FURTHER DRILLING/REAMING

Installation:

Setting kingpin preload:

Jack up the bottom of the knuckle until its snug, but not lifting the axle, pull the cap, spring, plastic bushing, install the bronze (or leave the plastic one in if you don't have bronze) clean the mating surface of the knuckle up and install studs, set the preload washer on top of the bushing, install the arm on the studs. Thread the set screw into the arm until it seats on the Preload Washer. Now torque it to 15-20 ft-lbs. Drop the jack, adjust it from there.

**Note** 20 ft-lbs was the torque we needed to preload the kingpin to equal that supplied by the stock
spring. Use this number as a starting point. With the steering links disconnected from the knuckle, turn
it from lock to lock with your hands. If the knuckle has any vertical play, torque the set screw more. If
the knuckle is too stiff (use the other side to compare), back the setscrew off in 1/4 turn increments until
you get a desired kingpin preload.
Now Secure the Set Screw in place using the large nut.


Steering Arm Info:
Our steering arms are CNC machined out of ASTM A572 Grade 50 steel. We previously have used 1018 steel, but switched to a more rigid material (A572). Grade 50 is a very strong low allow steel that fulfills our exceptionally high strength requirements, and is particularly strong for applications in which it is riveted or bolted. ASTM A572 Grade 50 is considered a "workhorse" grade and is widely used in many applications. Steel mills produce channel and heavy beams with Grade 50. It is commonly used in structural applications, heavy construction equipment, building structures, heavy duty anchoring systems, boom sections, structural steel shapes, and applications that require high strength per weight ratio.
