Our U-bolt flip kit removes the stock square U-bolts and lower plates, replacing them with round U-bolts and new plates that mount on the top of your springs, adding at least 1.250 inch's of clearance under your axles. We use 9/16ths grade 8 U-bolts front and rear.
Our U-Bolt Flip Kits were designed to address the shortcomings of other companies kits. The first problem is many didn't take into account that the differential side of the front axle required a larger U- bolt on the inside. We decided our kit needed to fit with a larger U-bolt, and we used grade 8 USA made 9/16ths U-bolts for long lasting without any problems. We also had interference problems with moving the axle forward, and hitting the tie rod with the ear of the spring plate. We have our plates shortened slightly, and bent at a 90* angle. Those 2 modifications solved the steering interference problem.
Sky's U-Bolt Flip Kits are not universal, we have rear kits, and front kits for either the 84-85 or 79-83 axle. Not a slotted one size fits all but will come loose option. Please spec which you are needing when ordering.
Note the lower truss in the image above. On 84-85 axles the truss is longer and goes under the leaf springs and will require square u-bolts to fit properly.
Crossover steering is required for front axle application. This is because the factory drag link will hit the u bolts when the flip is installed.
Note: some 84-85 axles require sanding the factory axle weld seam to fit the u bolts over the axle tube.
Add the weld on shock mounts to your rear kit if you are keeping your stock shock location, as the factory shock mount is on the spring plate.
Kit will fit domestic width, 2.5" leaf springs. Sky's widened the plate pattern slightly to make them fit Chevy 63" leaf swaps as well as factory Toyota springs.
Our U-bolts and plates stand far above our competitors cheap stamped u-bolt plates Their plate's overall size is smaller, the material is not a true 1/4" thick, and being stamped generally means a low quality soft material.
Our plates are laser cut from A50 P n O plate, much less prone to bending due to stress and fatigue associated with U-bolt plates in general. We then use a cnc press break to form them, which correctly forms the material, adding strength much like a dimple die process.
