Built to last with CNC machined Billet Steel Arms, Chromo Studs and Reid knuckles this is the strongest steering available for the Dana 44 axle
These kits are far less expensive than any comparable USA made kits on the market, and are in very high demand!Dana 44 steering kits are designed to fit open knuckle flat top Dana 44 live spindle axles only. We do not build any kits for closed knuckle style axles or unit bearings.
Dana 44 Full High Steer Kit includes the following:
1 - 4 Stud Passenger Side Steering Arm
8 - 9/16"" Steering Arm Studs
8 - 9/16"" Conical Washers
8 - 9/16"" Locking Nuts
1 - Tie Rod
1 - Draglink (formed bar for low lift GM and Dodge shown)
2 - Left Hand Thread 7/8"" GM 1 Ton Tie Rod Ends
2 - Left Hand Thread 7/8"" Jam Nuts
2 - Right Hand Thread 7/8"" GM 1 Ton Tie Rod Ends
2 - Right Hand Thread 7/8"" Jam Nuts
1 - Pitman Arm
67-87 Chevy/GMC: Will need to switch steering box's to a 2wd box in order to install crossover steering.
Sky's now offers a steering box brace kit for Chevy/GMC trucks in addition to our crossover kits.
88-2010 Chevy/GMC: Some steering box's use a 3 relief pit man arm, these will need to be swapped to a 4 relief sector shaft or swap the entire box.
You will also loose the ability to run the factory style sway bar, we recommend the Currie Anti Rock.
Steering Links are trim-able, we generally give at least an inch on ea side extra to be safe.
On Chevy/Gmc trucks we form the drag links to clear the cross member under the engine, the formed end will be closest to the pit man arm.
78-79 F-250 and F-350: Will require re indexing the pitman arm 90 degree's, from front to back stock over to side to side.
78-79 Ford F-150: simply requires installing new pitman arm in stock configuration.
Dodge: Requires moving the steering box to the 2wd location, you will also need to either relocate the sway bar or run an aftermarket such as the Anti-Rock from Currie. Will work only with 6 bolt live spindle knuckles, not unit bearings! Some Dodge knuckles have integral caliper brackets and are different from the Chevy knuckle this kit uses. In such case you will need to do Chevy brakes.
Sky's Offroad Design can also custom build a High Steer Kit to fit almost any axle and vehicle combo. For example a Jeep YJ Wrangler with a Chevy Dana 60. By machining the Jeep pitman arm, to accept a GM tie rod end, we can make a custom length drag link, and bingo you have a Dana 44 Jeep YJ Crossover kit.
Just e-mail us at firstname.lastname@example.org with what you have and we'll let you know how much it will cost.
NOTE: Body lift does not affect lift in options below. Please only specify suspension
REID Dana 44 Knuckles:
Cast from high strength ductile iron
Beefed up with extra material and ribbing
Flat tops machined and drilled for a perfect fit with our high steer arms
4th bolt hole for high steer arms increases clamping force and sheer strength (3 hole high steer arms still fit).
3/8"" thickness added to flat top of the knuckle for high steer tie rod to leaf spring clearance
Cast-in DUAL steering stops eliminate bent stop bolts that can cause u-joint and axle failures
Powder coated bright orange for long lasting looks
Interchangeable with all factory and aftermarket Dana 44 components
Fully machined and ready for installation
Machined to clear CTM u-joints without removing the grease fittings
Apply red Loctite to the short side of the studs and thread them in hand tight.
Install steering arms, cone washers and stover nuts
Torque to 90-110 Ft/Lb (factory Dana 44 spec)
Install pitman arm.
Check fitment of drag link. As they are made to fit a range of lifts it may need some trimming (up to 1"" off either end)
Dana 44 stud kits:
Sky's Off Road Design Dana 44 9/16ths high steer stud kit.
The fact is, stock Dana studs were not designed for extreme use.
So we grabbed some chromoly bar and started making our own studs.
We start by cutting and threading the material, then it goes to heat treat for through hardening and then a black oxide coating is applied. The studs have a tensile strength of approx. 190kpi.
Conical washers were another hard to find item. So we made our own, also out of chromoly. These conical washers will not distort like factory softer versions.
Steering Arm Info:
Our steering arms are CNC machined out of ASTM A572 Grade 50 steel. We previously have used 1018 steel, but switched to a more rigid material (A572). Grade 50 is a very strong low allow steel that fulfills our exceptionally high strength requirements, and is particularly strong for applications in which it is riveted or bolted. ASTM A572 Grade 50 is considered a ""workhorse"" grade and is widely used in many applications. Steel mills produce channel and heavy beams with Grade 50. It is commonly used in structural applications, heavy construction equipment, building structures, heavy duty anchoring systems, boom sections, structural steel shapes, and applications that require high strength per weight ratio.
