The stock rear shock location for the 3rd Gen 4Runner is problematic, especially in areas with high levels of rust. The upper shock often rusts out, and the limited space makes it difficult to install a quality shock. If you want to lift the vehicle and increase its travel capabilities, relocating the shocks becomes a necessity. Luckily, with wheel spacers and offset wheels, there is ample space to move the shocks outboard.
We've designed a new upper and lower rear shock mount that has been designed to relocate the shocks and accommodate longer shocks, allowing the use of trailing arms and a panhard bar on the back of the 4Runner.
Thanks to relocated bump stops, the axle now pivots on the bump stop and provides improved articulation by pushing the other side down. The upper mount is adjustable in height and wide enough to fit a heavy-duty shock. Constructed from 3/16" HRPO steel, this kit is supplied in raw steel for welding.
