The factory rear lower trailing arms on 3rd Gen 4Runners work well for stock use, but once a truck sees harder off-road use, larger tires, or years of service, the factory arms can become a weak point.
We needed a stronger replacement for our own builds, so we made one.
Sky’s Heavy Duty Rear Lower Trailing Arms are built as a stock-length, direct replacement for the factory lower rear control arms on 1996–2002 Toyota 4Runners. They retain the factory suspension geometry while providing a substantially stronger and more rigid arm.
Heavy-Duty DOM Construction
The main body of each arm is constructed from 1.75" OD × .188" wall DOM steel tubing.
Rather than relying on light stamped ends, the bushing housings are machined from 2" OD × .188" wall DOM tubing and TIG welded to the main tube for a strong, rigid assembly.
In our simple comparative press testing, the Sky’s arms demonstrated approximately 300% greater rigidity than the factory arms.
Polyurethane Bushings
Each arm uses Energy Suspension polyurethane bushings with steel inner sleeves. Polyurethane provides a firmer, more durable connection than the soft factory-style rubber bushings while maintaining the movement required by the rear suspension.
