Reid Super Kingpin Knuckles C's and Double Shear Arms

Chromo Billet Double Shear High Steer Arms for Reid's New Super Kingpin Knuckles.

Reid Racing’s patent-pending “Super Kingpin” knuckle assembly combines the best features of the familiar Kingpin Dana 60 and the 2005+ Ford Super Duty Dana 60 unit bearing knuckles for a unique oversized assembly that provides the next level of axle strength and durability. Much larger than the familiar kingpin Dana 60 and ball joint “Super 60,” the Super Kingpin assembly provides greater than Rockwell 2.5-ton strength in a simple and inexpensive package that utilizes familiar components and greatly reduced weight for high-speed racing applications.

Features:

  • Utilizes the stout Dana 60/70 upper and lower kingpin assemblies for the utmost in strength.

  • 1.5″ increased yoke spread allows fitment of 1480, 1550, and Rockwell 2.5-ton U-joints and a greater load carrying capacity.

  • Uses OEM 2005-present Ford Superduty unit bearings, lockout hubs, stub shafts, U-joints, and 2005-2012 calipers and rotors.

  • Aftermarket upgraded parts for Superduty applications should be fully compatible, including spindle/hub assemblies, lightweight brakes, unitbearings, and stub shafts.

  • Inner axle shaft sizes limited only by axle tube diameter and differential sidegears.

  • Outer stub shafts can be oversized to directly engage the unitbearing’s 2.5-inch hub splines when the lockout components are removed.

  • Flat-top pad machined for 6 ARP highsteer studs, allows for aftermarket steering arms that provide a wide range of steering options.

  • Antilock Brakes, Traction Control, Vacuum Hubs, and Electronic Stability Control systems can be retained.

  • 10° kingpin inclination and Ackerman angle optimized for 120-135 inch wheelbase.

  • Knuckles cast from high-strength ductile iron and beefed up with extra material and ribbing.

  • Cast-in steering arms tapered from the top down for standard “1-ton” tie rod ends; extra-wide arms allow the tie rod holes to be drilled out for oversized bolts, heim joints, etc. Extended arms allow a straight tie rod to clear most differential covers.

  • Dual cast-in steering stops

  • Designed specifically for use with our Super Kingpin Inner-C’s (p/n SKP5 - sold separately)

  • Ideal for new builds, narrowing or hybrid axles

  • Powdercoated in Reid Racing’s signature orange.

  • 100% Made in the USA

  • For off-road use only

  • There is no warranty on this product

Steering Arm Features:

Spring-less king pin pre-load design. Giant 7/8" chromemoly pre-load adjuster bolt and T1 king pin bushing wear plate included. Load bolt is manufactured by Sky's for this application, not a 3/4" set screw from from the local hardware store!

Arms use tapered nuts to add resistance to side shear.

Designed around an 8 inch stroke ram. Arms do require sizing lower tie rod hole to desired size of rod end. Arms come with 3/4" pilot hole aligned to the Reid knuckle tie rod hole. You will need to ream out the hole in the knuckle.

Steering Arm Info:
Our steering arms are CNC machined out of ASTM A572 Grade 50 steel. We previously have used 1018 steel, but switched to a more rigid material (A572). Grade 50 is a very strong low allow steel that fulfills our exceptionally high strength requirements, and is particularly strong for applications in which it is riveted or bolted. ASTM A572 Grade 50 is considered a "workhorse" grade and is widely used in many applications. Steel mills produce channel and heavy beams with Grade 50. It is commonly used in structural applications, heavy construction equipment, building structures, heavy duty anchoring systems, boom sections, structural steel shapes, and applications that require high strength per weight ratio.
*Tensile strength: 65,000 psi
*Yield strength: 50,000 psi

Installation:

Setting kingpin preload:

Jack up the bottom of the knuckle until its snug, but not lifting the axle, pull the cap, spring, plastic bushing, install the bronze (or leave the plastic one in if you don't have bronze) clean the mating surface of the knuckle up and install studs, set the preload washer on top of the bushing, install the arm on the studs. Thread the set screw into the arm until it seats on the Preload Washer. Now torque it to 15-20 ft-lbs. Drop the jack, adjust it from there.

**Note** 20 ft-lbs was the torque we needed to preload the kingpin to equal that supplied by the stock
spring. Use this number as a starting point. With the steering links disconnected from the knuckle, turn
it from lock to lock with your hands. If the knuckle has any vertical play, torque the set screw more. If
the knuckle is too stiff (use the other side to compare), back the setscrew off in 1/4 turn increments until
you get a desired kingpin preload.
Now Secure the Set Screw in place using the large nut.
